Wednesday, January 25, 2023 – Abner Ramos sets the 2nd Highest Altitude Record in the Island (11,457ft), OMG…😲

During this day a very good flight window was opened in the Isabela area. And without much planning, the pilots Abner Ramos and Edgardo Rivera met in Villa Pesquera to carry out some flights. They had to hurry, because even though the conditions were good they would be damaged in the afternoon…

Abner’s Plan…

In the past few weeks, Abner had been making high-altitude flights over the area. His two most recent were on Sunday January 1, 2023 where he climbed over 6,000 ft (https://www.volarpr.com/2023/01/11/sunday-january-01-2023-the-first-paramotor-flights-of-the-year-in-puerto-rico/), and his personal record of 9,021 ft had been established on November 27, 2022. (https://www.volarpr.com/2022/12/08/weekend-november-26-27-2022-more-people-living-the-experience-of-flying-and-abner-at-9k/).

With these previous experiences, Abner was already ready for bigger challenges and know understanding better how to carry his equipment, how to work with the weather conditions, the Cold, Breath, etc. The only thing missing was the right weather, and today he had the chance again.

More Ascent…

This time, he made a slight change of paraglider, he used his same model of Paraglider, BGD Luna 2, but instead of using his 20 meter, he used Edgardo’s 23 meter, and that would obviously help more in the rate of ascent.

The final result of this adventure was a total of 11,457 ft. It is in fact, the second highest height reached by any Puerto Rican pilot in the sport of Paramotor in the Island. Just behind the 13,131 ft mark set by Nixon Porrata at Ceiba on June 2016, (already 6 years and a half ago!). 👉🏾NIXON VIDEO👈🏾.

Meritorious mentions…

We should mention other impressive height marks over 10,000 ft in Puerto Rico. At the time these were the National Records. One of them, by José “Viva” Méndez at 10,074 ft in January 04, 2009 (👉🏾VIVA Video👈🏾), and that of Edwin Ruiz at 10,396 ft on February 04, 2009 (Soon I’ll find a Video of the Adventure). Meritorious mentions also go to Javier “Cayuco” García from Aguadilla, (9,000 ft+), and Darwin Hernández, (8,000 ft+).
