With the crosswinds coming from the SW for the whole island, we bet that the Parque del Norte in Hatillo would be good for flying. There is always a crosswind at about 10 AM, but this time it couldn’t be. The wind system over the island was very strong and would not allow the winds to turn. We had taken the day to give continuity to the school’s students’ courses, but not much could be done.
Kamikaze pilots and family present…
Luis Ruiz, his wife Jessica and son Noah Enrique
Pablo Cruz and his wife Millie
Ricardo González and his wife Ermelinda
Wilkins Torres, his wife Brenda, and son Wilkins Jr.
Mario Muñiz and his wife Ivonne
Micah Greenberg and his wife Leora
Sammy Badillo
Jose Luis Hernandez
From early hours the pilots and students proceeded to practice with the paragliders. Each and every one of those present took some time to practice. But the fact that the wind came in from the interior, made the wind very turbulent. Complicating things more for the students.
Little Noah was the best going with his natural ability and endless energy. He was followed by José Luis, Wilkins, Micah, Leora, Mario and Ricardo. But there wasn’t much that could be done.
The only one who came out to fly was Sammy, despite the advice not to go out, he decided to push his limits and went out. His flight didn’t last more than 5 minutes when he managed to turn to land, and as Sammy said, “it was bad, bad”.
So after noon we decided to end the activity. Luis Ruiz went home to finish repairing Mario‘s paraglider, which found damaged lines.
Edgar, Darwin and Abner…
But those who did fly were Edgardo Rivera, Darwin Hernández and Abner Ramos. They began their adventure in Villa Pesquera Isabela, but since the conditions were bad, they decided to move to Villa Pesquera Anasco. By car, BUT, Abner managed to take off from Isabela, gain good altitude and fly all the way to Anasco. There the wind was hitting them head on and they were able to fly at ease.
In Anasco, they were able to fly the entire West Coast, in fact with many stories. But anyway, they managed to reach the Rincón Lighthouse and later the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse. In the case of Darwin, he even saw whales off the coast of Anasco and Rincón.
