The best weather in weeks, and we had to take advantage of it. This time the wind didn’t start picking up until noon, with an average wind of 3 mph coming from NW all morning. That means that even though the conditions were very good to fly, the pilots have to earn their flights by taking off in those conditions.
Team Kamikazes Pilots arrive from all island…
Mario Muñiz and his wife Ivonne (Aguadilla)
Luis Ruiz and his son Ian Darrell (Aguada)
Gilbert Ávila, his wife Tatita and sister Mayra (Ceiba)
Edgardo Rivera (Aguas Buenas)
Darwin Hernandez (Isabela)
Albert Cardona (Arecibo)
Alberto Sabah (Isabela)
Fio Lopez (Aguada)
Noel Vale (Moca)
Arriving to Live their Flying Experience…
Lauren Gaudio and her daughters Mónica and Cecilia, who live in NY, USA (and were visiting the island).
The adventure…
As we indicated, there was not much wind in the morning, this made the take-off process difficult. But not a major problem for, Luis, Ian, Darwin, Alberto and Albert Cardona who managed to Take Off in these conditions by the Front Launch method. In the meantime, Mario, Noel, Fio and Edgardo waited patiently for the intensity of the winds to pick up a bit.
The pilots who were flying enjoyed excellent weather and ventured all the way to the Guajataca Coast in Quebradillas. In the case of Luis and Ian, they had to carry out the Demo flights of Lauren and her daughters using the Front Launch method. Everything went very well, thank God.
Edgardo Rivera, a Unique pilot…
Edgardo‘s case is very notable. He is recovering from an operation on his right leg and is still on walking crutches!!! And with that situation, he managed to bring his Paramotor to the Launch area. Amazing!!!
He was carrying his 40-meter BGD Dual paraglider for the attempt if the conditions were good. A further help from his friend Darwin, complicate a bit the situation. Darwin, put too much gasoline into the Paramotor, making impossible for it to start… this was resolve in some minutes and with a long walk of Darwin back to the car looking for other Spark Plug…
After several minutes of waiting, the wind increased a bit his intensity, and Edgardo will go for the fly, with the assistance of the other pilots. After some tense minutes, he managed to do it!!!. His first flight for “Foot Launch” after his leg accident a few months ago. He took the opportunity to do a long fly around all the coast of Isabela and Quebradillas with his big Paraglider. Congratulations!!!
Mario Muniz…
This takeoff also motivated Mario to go flying, who this time to avoid many complications, used Luis’s new paraglider, the 29-meter BGD Magic. In fact, once he landed, Mario‘s surprised face when flying that glider was priceless…, he said, it was very comfortable, and his engine was barely working while he maintained the flying height along the coast. Later, Mario, used also his great Cosmos Power 24 meters for a second fly of the day.
Fio Lopez 2nd Fly Ever…
During the morning, Fio Lopez was assisting the pilots that Take Off in Light winds conditions. Then, when the wind start to pick up the intensity, Fio started his kiting practice. After some excellent practices, Luis gave him a Green Light to try his 2nd Fly ever. The attitude of Fio was good, so, we will go for it. This time to make sure that everything goes smoothly, we go with the BGD Wasp 29 meters paraglider. The result was as expected, Fio Take Off with authority, and was flying for some 45 minutes.
He corrected some issues that were present in his first fly some days ago. And at the end, he was very happy and looking forward for next flights. Two Flights and Counting!!! Congratulations!!!
Gilbert Avila…
Around noon, Gilbert Ávila, his wife Tatita and his sister Mayra arrived at the activity. Gilbert, a lifelong friend of Luis, was active in Team Kamikazes activities by 2010. And after that he settled in the USA, specifically in Orlando and Texas. Today he was visiting to say hello and took the opportunity to practice kiting for a while. In the meantime, Tatita and Mayra took the opportunity to take a Demo Flight with Ian around the surroundings.
This ended with lunch and we hope to see Gilbert back as soon as December. What a great day this was. God Bless!!!
