Saturday, December 09, 2023 – A visit to Lajas Valley.

Very active weather, with strong winds are the norm for all of Puerto Rico these past few days. This is normal for these dates with the cold fronts that arrive from the Atlantic. Simply, the North coast has winds of 25 mph+ which does not allow us to fly in that area for a few days.

Our alternative, for these days, is to take the morning flight from the Lajas Valley. Ideal flight conditions typically occur between 6:30 and 8:30 AM. The detail is that you have to get up early and be ready to take off at 6:15 AM, with zero wind, wet grass, and with the knowledge of wet grass conditions also for landing in zero wind. So, you need to have good skills in the sport to manage this type of flight.

That said, we arrived on this occasion to the Lajas Valley, Luis Ruiz with his son Noah Enrique, Edgardo Rivera, and the ultra-lightweight pilot, and who always flies in the place, Arnaldo Rios.

Getting Started…

Luis took off with his son Noah on a Trike, while Edgardo would use Luis’s 29 meter BGD paraglider to facilitate his takeoff. Arnaldo flew his ultra light later.

The flights, as expected, were very smooth and enjoyable and lasted about an hour flying throughout the Valley.

Around 8:30 AM we were landed and ready to enjoy the day in other pending activities.

Edgardo had other plans…

Edgardo, passed the day in the West Area. At about 4 PM, when was time to return to his home at Aguas Buenas, he found good weather at San German, and stopped for another fly in the day. He had a place for Take Off in the area, so, in minutes, he prepared his equipment and flew San German Valley. Here is a video of his experience to finish the flying activities of the day…
